President Umaru Yar’ Adua has tasked traditional rulers to use the opportunity of their workshop in Abuja, to come up with well-researched proposals on their constitutional roles.
Yar’Adua said this will serve as their input into the proposed constitution amendment by the National Assembly, which has been slated for next year.
He said this in an address delivered on his behalf by the Senate President, David Mark, at the opening of a three-day National Stakeholders’ Workshop. He added that government would collaborate with traditional institution at all levels in the quest to provide good governance.
According to him, to do this effectively, their roles and functions must be specified and enshrined in the Constitution.
