Election of Senator Ayuba Nullified

The election tribunal sitting in Birnin Kebbi has nullified the election of Maj. Gen. Tanko Ayuba (retd) as the senator representing Kebbi South Senatorial District.
The tribunal also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC ) to conduct fresh elections for the area as well as disqualified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from fielding a candidate in the fresh election.

The decision of the tribunal is sequel to the petition filed by Alhaji Bello Usman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) challenging the election of Ayuba on the grounds that he was not qualified to contest the election.
In his judgment the tribunal Chairman, Justice Aondover Kaka’an, ruled that the nomination of Tanko Ayuba breached some sections of the Electoral Act. The tribunal therefore, declared his election null and void and that votes cast for him were invalid.
